Today's nature walk

This morning we took a walk down to the pond, to see how much wildlife we could still find in the area. We've watched many of the Canada Geese fly away for the winter. But when something goes, another thing will often takes its place (in our attentions, anyway).

We were observing first the barren trees, then studying the different textures of the bark (see in the picture how the children are feeling the "peach fuzz" found on one of the trees along the pond route).

As we walked a little further, we noticed how quiet it had become. With the geese gone, new sounds became apparent to us. We searched for where the ne sound was coming from, and were quite excited to spot not one, but two Ospreys! We also saw some mallard ducks, and lots of seagulls.
