April Showers Bring May Flowers

Welcome to official April weather.  This photo is not from today, but I love the rain boots.
Rain boots are such a fun part of playing in the rain.  We love to splash in the puddles, and sing rain songs.
Sometimes we play in front of my house in the rain, with the garage open so that anyone who forgot to bring their rain clothes can still play outside (sort of) by using sidewalk chalk on the garage floor.

Splash pants are a good way to help children get to play in the puddles without getting their pants wet, and they aren't as bulky or as insulating as snow pants.  Don't have any?  Please make sure you have a couple of extra spare pants packed in your child's bag for back up.  Puddles are uniquely magnetic to children, LOL.

Today's Show and Tell

For circle time, the children picked out some of their current favourite toys to use for Show and Tell. After the Good Morning Train song, the children took turn telling each other what they liked about their toys. I was so proud of the way they each waited till their turn to share. They really enjoy participating in Show and Tell.

At snack time, I made some steamed broccoli for us to have lots of energy before we head outside to play. After the kids tried a little bit, I exclaimed that they were having a party in their tummy, and we started to sing that Yo Gabba Gabba song. They got so excited that they ate ALL the broccoli. Then they asked me to make MORE broccoli, so they could have another party in their tummy! I was impressed.

For our outdoor time today, we walked over to the pond to see if we could welcome home some geese from their winter migration. We found two geese in the first pond.

At the next pond, we noticed that some of it was melted, while other parts of the pond had freshly fallen snow on the ice. We decided that it looked like the pond had polka dots.

Egg-celent Eggs!

We have been reading about eggs, which was a very easy topic to get into with all the baby talk that's been going on around here. We are sharing in the excitement with our little friend, as he tells us what it's like to become a big brother.

Since many babies come from eggs, we decided that today's story time would start with Eggs, by Marilyn Singer.

While reading, we learned about many interesting facts, like how the Trichogramma wasp lays its eggs inside the eggs of other moths and flies.

Or how the elephant birds eggs were way bigger than an ostrich egg. It can fit more than a hundred chicken eggs in one elephant egg! Wow wee!

We chose a few photos for parents to see, including one of the elephant bird from Madagascar 300 years ago (aren't you glad we have that time travel machine?), and a comparison of that bird's egg alongside an ostrich egg and a hummingbird egg. Pretty cool.

March Break Crafts

Here are some of the crafts and activities we have been doing this week.

The children and I have been doing endless colour pages, cut & paste, glitter sprinkling, and number/colour/shape matching. No worries though, I stocked up on construction paper again.

Thank you!

Thanks to the wonderful mom who decided to bake us some home made banana-chocolate chip muffins!

Not only were these muffins gluten free, but the children and I have declared them worthy of official
Yummy-in-my-tummy status!
Mmmmmuffins!

Today's Puzzles

Today we were given some blank coloring puzzles from one of our parents. We were excited to get started on them, and here is one of the photos.
I can't share the other puzzle pics online because I had already written the children's names on their puzzles before clicking my camera. Oops.
